Oasis RV Resort, Las Vegas NV
The campground in Las Vegas is just south of the airport and close to I-15. It’s a resort with a restaurant, store, two pools (one for adults only), a gym and many trailers, it has over 800 sites! Our site was close to the clubhouse and pool, as well as to the entrance. Not a large site, but with shady trees, that helped because it was hot as hell, over 100 degrees. Yes, they say it’s dry heat but it’s still heat! So off to the pool we went.
We walked the Strip another day, but really we were walking through hotels, it was just too hot on the street. I like Bellagio, it has beautiful art displays and great shopping, I don’t have interest in the casinos. We passed by New York New York with its Statue of Liberty, then Luxor and finally Mandalay Bay. Then Uber to the Resort and off to the pool again.
Tom always enjoyed helicopters, he booked a wonderful tour for us with Papillon Grand Canyon Tours . It took us around Hoover Dam and then we landed on a bluff overlooking Colorado River in Grand Canyon. You could clearly see where the Colorado was coming into the lake, the contrast in color was unmistakable.
I loved the tour, especially the time inside the Canyon. It reminded me of the rafting trip back in 2015, I would do it again, great fun and such an adventure. After the ride, we drove back to Hoover Dam to have a closer look (it was HOT). It is amazing engineering, the river narrows but it is deep, close to 900 feet. It was difficult to construct, with lives lost. There’s a monument dedicated to the workers on the Nevada side.
I was having a hard time with the heat, so the thought of hiking was just not on my mind. The resort was large, walking around gave me plenty of exercise as long as went early in the morning or after dinner. The one thing Vegas offers is great food. We found a wonderful Italian place, The Bootlegger, and had dinner and lunch there. After all the driving and camping, it was nice to relax by the pool, talk to our neighbors and just take it easy. Soon enough we need to pack and get the camper into storage.
We finally had to get all our stuff to local storage and that’s when things went haywire. I got a massive nosebleed, just constant drip of blood. After an hour, when I realized this is just not stopping on its own, we went to the ER. The staff was wonderful and got me in fast to see the doctor. Apparently, it is not unusual since its so dry (humidity around 10-30%). My sinuses didn’t know what hit them! We were able to get back in time to get the camper stored away and get to the airport. I had the pleasure of traveling back home looking like Fremen from Dune with their breathing apparatus.
Now we’re back, I love seeing Blair and Casey and Milo, start Mom/Daughter lunch challenge again, see my dear friends and enjoy green woods and plenty of humidity.
