Pumpkin Patch, ME and return home
The weather predictions for Hurricane Lee’s landing were pointing to the Maine and Nova Scotia cost. We decided to head back west and home, after a quick stay in the area. Tom had some business at the bike shop in Southwest Harbor and at the campground we were supposed to stay at, Smuggler’s Den so we made our way there.
I really enjoy Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park and was very disappointed that we will not be able to spend time there. We visited Smuggler’s Den, it’s a nice campground with good size sites and we hope to return there. We talked to the camp host/owner, who mentioned that they have already cancelled cabin and tent reservations and will be deciding on campers shortly. Since there are so many trees around the campground, the concern was wind related damage and power outages.
After short stop there, we made our way to Southwest Harbor and Southwest Cycle shop. The owner, Bob, was the one that we rented e-bikes from on our last visit. We, especially Tom, enjoyed chatting with Bob and his team about bikes. It was no different this time, Tom was picking up a part that Bob ordered for him. Next thing I know, Bob is showing him all the improvements he made to his bike and half hour goes by quickly. Eventually, we left and started looking for dinner. We ended up at Gateway Lunts Lobster Pound for great meal of chowder, lobster roll and blueberry pie. Loved it!
Next day we left for home, I drove part of the way through Maine/New Hampshire traffic. I’m not fond of that area, and even less of 84 through Connecticut, though most of the ugly construction seems to be completed. We got home in early evening, after 11 hours of driving.
Now few days of rest and regrouping, before heading south to Virginia.
