Interlude

We are getting ready for our next trip, so I think it’s a good time to look back on first trip and what I learned…

  • It’s good to have some schedule.   I did my yoga daily, it helped me to stay grounded. Tom was happy with his gaming chair and computer.

  • Leftovers are your friend - we had quesadillas many times with leftover veggies, shrimp or chicken.

  • State parks in Kentucky are used primarily by locals, people we met came from 1-2 hrs drive from home.

  • The simple things are best, enjoy the sunsets, changes in weather, talking to people.

  • If you staying more than few days, pick places that have variety of activities.  Hiking/biking is great, but can’t do it every day, though some would argue to contrary.

  • Camper is very small, create private time when needed.

  • Try not to run over critters!

We planned on six weeks between the two loops, and now is almost time to start on the Northern Loop.  Frankly, it was difficult month, we had issues with the camper and it was in the shop for weeks to fix the slide.  Going between the manufacturer and the dealer was a nightmare - no one wanted to do the work nor communicate properly.  Just frustrating time of waiting for information.  Finally, after endless escalations, we have it back, just days before next trip.  This time, we will not take the blue grill, just the Blackstone, so I need to brush up on different set of recipes.  It’s amazing how the truck and the camper get filled out with “stuff” so quickly!  We are bringing the kayaks this time, the first two stops are lakeside and I’m looking forward getting on the water.

Tom refactored the desk and his computers, I’m sure he would have liked having more time to do it, but here we are.

Aside from the camper slide frustration, I enjoyed catching up with friends, spending time with Blair and Milo, (nothing beats seeing Blair use the torch to melt cheese on her sandwich), doing some hiking (can you say sauna!?) and biking.  Though we will have friends joins us for part of the time on the road, it was good to enjoy the time at home.
