St. Vrain State Park, Longmont CO

St. Vrain is a small park, very close to I-25, north of Denver.  It has couple of ponds, these are from gravel mining back in the 1960s, now they are used for fishing or paddling. This was a short stay so we went to nearby Boulder to shop (Trader Joe’s!). Of course we picked the worst possible weekend - it was the move-in weekend or “kiss and cry” as Tom puts it.

The proximity of the Rockies was breathtaking, very close by in Boulder, but still visible from St. Vrain.  Couple of storms created double rainbows, hopefully a good sign of things to come.

We did a hike around the ponds, many people fishing and getting ready to enjoy paddle boarding.  Lots of birds and wild flowers and, of course, a prairie dog town (I still think they are cute!).  There are so many biking trails, one went through the park and continued towards Boulder.  It was a busy stay, getting resupplied, and enjoyable with all the views of the ponds.

It was also the last time we camped with Anthony, it was truly great to have him as our traveling companion and sharing the adventure.

Onward to Mueller State Park, in Colorado’s high country.
