Shreveport KOA, LA

The campground is a small KOA close to I-20, it’s pretty basic. We have a good site, at the end of the row with woods behind.

We are here only for one full day, as we decided to spend more time around Dallas.  First order of business on arrival day was to get lunch.  Everyone recommended Orlandeaux’s Cafe so of course we had to try it.  The restaurant has been opened in 1921 and serves Creole, Soul Food and Southern Cuisine.  We were not disappointed. We had gumbo, shrimp and grits for me and stuffed shrimp for Tom, all excellent.

We got familiar with the wild life here, primarily the fire ants.  These things are mean, you don’t see them but if you put your hand or any other body part near them, you are it trouble.  Tom touched the ground near their nest for few seconds and thought that he touched acid.  We spoke to one of the managers at the campground (his wife is one of the owners) and he said it is almost impossible to get rid of them and they do hurt like hell.

This morning, Tom finished putting on new signal lights on the back of the camper, our bikes obscure the existing lights.  It came out great, so as reward, we went to the next recommended spot, Ki’ Mexico.  It’s known for tacos, I had shrimp and pulled pork, Tom went for beef and chicken.  I loved the elote corn as appetizer as well.   After all that food, we headed to the botanical gardens, on the grounds of the R.W. Norton Art Gallery .  It was just what we needed, pretty garden with lots of beautiful trees and plantings, some ponds with koi fish, turtles and ducks.

Now we are relaxing and getting ready for the next drive tomorrow.  Texas - here we come!
