Seven Points, Nashville TN
Today marks one month on the road. There’s a lot I want to say about the area but first, just thoughts about the journey.
The first month was filled with friends and company and I loved it! So much fun in hiking and hanging out with Kathy, Mikel and Daniela and Anthony. Then great fun with Kevin and Jill and Patrick and Nancy. Special times with special friends!
Now, it’s just us and it feels less like a vacation, and more like a lifestyle. We are exploring the area, but we need to shop, do laundry, clean the camper (yikes!) and take care of small chores (those tanks need to be cleaned out!).
Doing all that in this campground is really special. I wake up and open the back shades and see this beautiful lake. I am glad that we decided to spend two weeks here, it helped in settling down into a routine. The weather improved, it’s pretty warm now, in the 80s, so it’s easy to spend time outdoors. I feel grateful for opportunity to spend time here.
Back to our stay at Seven Points Campground. The campground hosts are two couples, working four days and off for next work. They are very nice and helpful as are all folks that we talked to so far. There’s that saying about southern hospitality and we’re seeing it.
Nashville has a lot to offer. We spend time at Honky Tong Highway, which is the area in downtown Nashville with bars, shops and other venues. Bars have live music, though I do wonder when they start, as we were there one day around noon and they were going strong! I enjoyed the music and the experience, how often do you get country version of Britney’s “Hit me baby” and we did get that! Plus the ice cream from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream did the trick .
We visited the Parthenon, on one hand it’s a bit odd seeing it, since I saw the original in Athens. But the idea is interesting, and, when we visited, there was a class trip there, learning about ancient Greece. There’s a wonderful art exhibit as well, great paintings from American artists though it may rotate with others.
The experience at Grand Ole Opry was not what I expected. This is the new venue, since the Ryman https://www.ryman.com/ became too small. The Classic Country show included names and music I’m not familiar with though Tom was singing along. But I loved the way the engaged the audience, talking to them and having them sing along. The people watching was good too, some folks were very casual, some dressed in their western finest, rhinestones and all. Great time!
We realized on the way back that Taylor Swift has three concerts that weekend, I could not believe the line of cars at the airport as people were arriving. And why I did not know?? Do you think I would be able to persuade Tom to attend?
Weather has been tricky, there’s a lot of rain, we had couple of strong thunderstorms with heavy winds, especially at the lake. We have beautiful sunny days and then days with clouds, heat and humidity with dew points over 60 degrees.
We biked it few times, there’s a greenway we used, great trail, paved with some hills (yeah e-bike!) and plenty of miles if you want it. We used Stones River Greenway, which took us along Stones River to Cumberland River close to downtown. If you in Nashville, check it out here.
There’s one interesting area along the greenway and that’s an abandoned airport. It was flooded back in early 2000’s, so new one was build away from the river and the old one is dedicated to recreation. Nothing beats biking high speed down a runway! What a treat! We met very nice guy, a private pilot named Dale, who gave us the info on this. We actually biked with him twice, which really means that Tom biked with him and I trailed behind…:)
It’s our last night here, we decided to skip Memphis. There were bad reviews of the campground and we would need to cut our stay here shorter and I did not want to.
We are off to Kentucky tomorrow, let’s see what’s next in our adventure.
