Santa Fe Skies RV Park, NM

The campground is on the south end of town, high on a ridge.  Our site has westerly view, and the sunsets are spectacular.  There’s a walking trail around the property, great way to stretch your legs after a long ride.  The are metal sculptures throughout the campground, it adds to the artsy feel of the place.  One was the “Baba Yaga”, all my eastern European friends probably know it the stories.  Baba Yaga is a forest witch with a house on chicken feet that can move.

We found a nice place to eat close by, El Parasol.  First time I had a veggie burrito with guac (of course!), Tom went for traditional burger.  I tried their chicken tacos another time, with rice, beans and guac, it was excellent.

I have to say the weather has been challenging.  The day after we arrived, there was a wind/sand storm.  I’ve never experienced anything like it.  It would be quiet for a bit, then the wind would whip up the sand and just push through.  We tried taking a walk, but all you got was a mouthful of sand, not fun.  Few days later, we had a full rain, wind and hail storm, hopefully that’s it for a while.

Exploring the historic downtown was fun.  The architecture of most buildings in Santa Fe reflects the abode style, certainly in the downtown area.  The plaza has stores and restaurants around it, we had a great lunch at Plaza Cafe Downtown .

I’ve visited the Georgia O’Keefe Museum , Tom was not quite into it.  I love her paintings, of course the flowers are most known, but her paintings of cottonwoods were lovely as well.   It was interesting to see her progression through various mediums and subjects through the years.

Once the weather improved, we explored some of the trails around the city, I am not used to this elevation though.  We found a trail that had petroglyphs, that was very interesting.  The site is on the mesa overlooking the Santa Fe river.  It is one of the larger sites of petroglyphs in the area.

And finally, last sunset in Santa Fe.  Tomorrow, we are off to Taos NM.
