Mount Blue SP, ME

As we left Ashland, NH, we followed I93 North through Franconia Notch State Park.  The Mountains are beautiful there, and we saw so many hiker parking lots, most filled up.  The weather was cloudy with some light rain, it would have been challenging to hike these peaks.  We went east through Gotham NH, and eventually passed Mt Washington to our south.  We passed by the Twin Mountain KOA we stayed at back in 2019. Good times…

The scenery changed as we got into Maine, more open though still mountainous.  We passed Sunday River, which has a nice ski resort and finally arrived at Mount Blue State Park.  The area is rather undeveloped, with few towns.  And now the fun began…

The campground is not well developed, it caters to tent camping more than RV and only few sites have amenities. Our site though it’s good size, is not flat.  It slopes front to back and sideways.  It’s the first time that we had to re-hitch and move the trailer.  Once in position, there was considerable JINGA to get our nose up and leveled front to back.  Let’s see how it goes when we break down.

The park is large, there are trails throughout, few leading to the lake.  Webb Lake is large, with nice swim beach, sand and small stones, kayak put in and further up, a boat launch. There are picnic tables and grills, along the lake shore, bathrooms and showers (outdoor).  We chatted with some campers, most were local with 1-2 hrs drive.  We also met two ladies that are doing very similar trip as us but in reverse.

They had a lot of rain this summer so there’s a lot of wet areas throughout the park.  When I say wet, I mean it’s very marshy with little creeks running through the woods.  Which means that if you are outside walking or sitting around, the mosquitos are out in force.  We only had two full days here, our activities were limited, it rained one day most of the afternoon.
